Thought Sport. A successful Primary Debating Season: Nurturing Young Minds
The Primary Debating season of All Saints Grammar in 2023 was marked by enthusiasm, eloquence, and a commitment to fostering the art of debate among our young students. This report highlights the achievements, progress, and overall impact of the season.
Throughout the season, students demonstrated substantial growth in their debating skills. They honed their abilities in research, public speaking, critical thinking, and persuasive argumentation. This development was evident in the quality of arguments presented during debates and the poise with which students delivered their speeches.
A highlight of the season was our participation in the IPSHA inter-school debate competition. All Saints Grammar Primary fielded competitive teams that performed exceptionally well. Notably, we secured ten wins from twelve debates, an achievement that reflects the dedication and hard work of our debaters and coaches. This victory has not only brought recognition to our school but also boosted the confidence of our students.
The success of the Primary Debating season was also made possible through the active involvement of our dedicated teachers and supportive parents. Teachers fulfilled the role of adjudicators and coaches, providing guidance, and fostering a positive learning environment. A big thankyou to Miss Sims, Mr Psomas, Ms Hurst and Mrs Constanti for providing adjudication throughout the season. Parents played a crucial role in supporting their children’s participation, attending events, and providing encouragement.
Beyond the wins and accolades, the Primary Debating season was instrumental in nurturing the personal growth and confidence of our students. Many participants reported increased self-assuredness in public speaking, better research skills, and a newfound ability to articulate their thoughts effectively.
The Primary Debating season at All Saints Grammar in 2023 was undeniably a success. It not only provided a platform for students to develop essential life skills but also promoted inclusivity and community engagement. The victories achieved and personal growth experienced by our students are a testament to the dedication of our educators, the support of parents, and the enthusiasm of our young debaters.
As we look forward to the next season, we are excited about the continued growth and success of our debating program. We are confident that our students will carry the lessons learned and the confidence gained with them into their future endeavours, making them effective communicators and critical thinkers in an ever-changing world.
