As we approach the Feast Day of All Saints on Sunday 27 June, we are encouraged to contemplate about the creative energies of the Triune God, whose outpouring of the Holy Spirit, in the form of tongues of fire on the heads of the Apostles on the day of Pentecost signifies the mobilisation of the Christian Church to the four corners of the earth and beyond.

The Feast of Pentecost is closely related to the Feast of All Saints since every Saint, every Martyr, every single follower of Jesus Christ has spent their life using their God-given talents and gifts for the glory of Him who came down to earth to raise us up to heaven. As such, when we celebrate All Saints Sunday, we honour and commemorate the lives of Saints who, like us, were earthly citizens driven by virtue, love and sacrifice for God, essentially leading a life in Christ, available to all.

We therefore celebrate All the Saints together; known and unknown, grand or small, men and women and children, young or old etc. in every age and at any place. The same applies here with us, today in 2021, at All Saints Grammar; from the Head of School to each and every member of staff caring for the students of the school. Why? Because Christ became indiscriminately human for all of us in order that we become gods by grace.

So, the more we try to learn about and emulate the example of the Saints in our world, the more we will be inspired to cultivate the Faith and the Holy Tradition of the Church, bringing holiness and meaning into our lives becoming in the process bearers of God’s truth and love. So long as we accept the gift of holiness with sincere thanks, gratitude and humility of heart.
