Careers News - June 2025
As we move into Term 3, it is wonderful to see our senior students reflecting on their academic progress and beginning to engage seriously with their post-school pathways. There has been many one-on-one career based discussions with our senior students, which provide valuable opportunities for students to assess their performance, identify areas for improvement, and refine their goals as they prepare for the HSC and life beyond school.
Careers Day & Year 10 Morrisby Testing
We are also pleased to advise parents and students of two key careers events at school:
- Careers Day: Scheduled for Thursday of Week 9, this event featured guest speakers, employer presentations, and interactive workshops designed to give students greater insight into career pathways and employment skills.
- Year 10 Morrisby Careers Aptitude Testing: This comprehensive career assessment will help Year 10 students identify potential career pathways aligned with their skills, interests, and aptitudes. Students will receive personalised reports to support their subject selections and career planning discussions.
Building Careers, One Step at a Time
This term, alongside my continued focus on careers and exam preparation workshops, we are encouraging students to take proactive steps towards career planning. Students should now be:
- Developing strong home study routines (15-20 hours per week)
- Completing homework and revision regularly
- Practicing past HSC exam papers
- Utilising study periods effectively
The HSC is not only a culmination of student’s school journey but also a stepping stone towards their career. Students current focus, discipline, and determination will directly impact their opportunities after school.

The Ten Study Habits of Successful Students
- Try not to do too much studying at one time.
If you try to do too much studying at one time, you will tire and your studying will not be very effective. Space the work you have to do over shorter periods of time. Taking short breaks will restore your mental energy. - Plan specific times for studying.
Study time is any time you are doing something related to schoolwork. Schedule specific times throughout the week for your study time. - Try to study at the same times each day.
Studying at the same times each day establishes a routine that becomes a regular part of your life. - Set specific goals for your study times.
Goals help you stay focused and monitor your progress. Be clear about what you want to accomplish. - Start studying when planned.
Avoid procrastination. Delays can lead to rushed and careless work. - Work on the assignment you find most difficult first.
Tackle your hardest task when you have the most mental energy. - Review your notes before beginning an assignment.
Reviewing notes ensures accuracy and helps complete assignments correctly. - Tell your friends not to call during your study times.
Interruptions reduce concentration. Turn off your phone during study sessions. - Call another student when you have difficulty with an assignment.
Sometimes two heads are better than one. - Review your schoolwork over the weekend.
Use weekends for light review to prepare for the coming week.
Wishing all students continued success as they balance their studies with future planning.
