This term, PreKinder explored the rich and fascinating theme of “Our Wonderful World,” diving into both the built and natural environments through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

We began by investigating man-made structures from around the world. Students explored famous landmarks digitally and through provocation images, then chose a favourite to recreate using Lego. This sparked rich conversations around design, shape, height, length, and geography.

Our inquiry then turned to the natural world, where students showed great interest in plants, flowers, and reptiles. We explored life cycles, and students expressed their understanding through oral language tasks, creative projects, and group displays. Individually and as a class, we enjoyed a planting experience – successfully growing alfalfa sprouts while learning about what plants need to thrive.

A major highlight of Term 3 was our Reptile Incursion, where students had the opportunity to get up close with a range of reptiles, including snakes, lizards, turtles, and even a baby crocodile. They were able to pat, hold, and learn fascinating facts about these creatures – an unforgettable, hands-on learning experience that brought our science focus to life.

Throughout the term, our students have engaged in a rich blend of learning experiences that integrated core learning areas:

• Science – through life cycles, observing plant growth first-hand, and animal exploration
• Literacy – through fiction and non-fiction texts, discussions, building new vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills
• Mathematics – through measuring, comparing, and identifying patterns

Music and Movement opportunities added to our depth of learning and saw students learn “The Reptile Song”, reinforcing classroom learning in a joyful and creative way.

It’s been a term full of curiosity, discovery, and amazement as we explored our wonderful world.
