How we help every child become a Better Learner and a Better Person
As parents you are likely keen to understand what great teaching look like today, and how All Saints Grammar will ensure your child is supported to succeed.
Our Learning and Teaching Framework is a response to these questions; a clear whole-school approach that guides how learning happens in every classroom, from PreKinder through to Year 12. It brings together our Christian Orthodox values, our commitment to academic excellence, and the strongest educational research available about how students learn best.
For us, education has always been about more than academic results alone. While we strive for high achievement, our deeper purpose is the formation of the whole person. Within Christian Orthodox tradition and Hellenic heritage, education is understood as a journey toward wisdom, character, and responsible participation in community life. Learning therefore involves not only knowledge and skills, but also resilience, reflection, compassion, and ethical understanding.
Our framework ensures this vision is translated into everyday classroom practice.
Educational research across the world consistently shows that the quality of teaching has the greatest impact on student learning within a school. For this reason, our approach combines three evidence-based practices that help students experience clarity, confidence, and challenge in their learning.
Formative Assessment allows teachers to understand how students are progressing as learning takes place. Through questioning, feedback, and classroom activities, teachers gather evidence that helps them adjust instruction and support each student’s next step forward.
Explicit Instruction, grounded in cognitive science, ensures that new learning is carefully explained and structured. Teachers model thinking, guide students through practice, and gradually build independence so that learners develop both confidence and deep understanding.
Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) ensure that every student receives what they need to thrive. Some students may require additional support at particular moments, while others benefit from greater extension and challenge. This structured approach helps ensure that no learner is overlooked and every learner can grow.
Importantly, our framework also aligns closely with the Curriculum Reform currently taking place across New South Wales. The updated curriculum emphasises deep learning, strong foundations in knowledge, and teaching informed by evidence. By embedding these approaches across the school, we are preparing students not only for examinations, but for lifelong learning.
Excellence in learning begins with excellence in teaching. For this reason, the research foundations of our framework guide our ongoing professional learning programs. Teachers work collaboratively, analyse student progress, and continually refine their practice to ensure that every classroom reflects the highest standards of instruction and care. In this way we reduce variability across our classrooms and every student is exposed to teaching practice deliberately designed to foster student learning.
Ultimately, our Learning and Teaching Framework reflects who we are as a community of learning informed by faith. It brings together tradition and research, structure and compassion, academic rigour and personal formation.
Through this shared commitment, we continue to work toward the enduring aspiration outlined in our school philosophy, namely, helping your child become both a Better Learner and a Better Person.
