“Now all things are filled with light, heaven and earth and all things beneath the earth.”

– St John of Damascus

Dear All Saints Grammar Community

Christ is risen! Truly he is risen!

As we celebrate the glorious Feast of the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, we rejoice in full splendour and our hearts are filled with joy and gladness.
St John, the beloved disciple of Christ, writes in his Gospel proclaiming that in Jesus “was life, and that life was the light of the people” (John 1:4). This light shines most brightly and envelopes everyone and everything as Jesus lays down his life for the good of all people and the whole of creation.

On Good Friday, the Gospel accounts speak of the darkness overcoming the land as Jesus is nailed on the Cross, falsely appearing that darkness has distinguished the light. But, on Easter Sunday midnight, we triumphantly declare that the Light of the World could never and will never be extinguished. For “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it” (John 1:5).

The glorious Resurrection of our Lord which we celebrate is a declaration of the transforming power of Christ overcoming darkness and bringing life; even to those in the tombs.

Even though we continue to observe darkness over the world; being sojourners of a pandemic, violence, racism, war and other forces of evil, we are all once again called to receive the transformative light of Christ’s Resurrection; passing it on to the rest of humanity in the process, becoming lights ourselves obliterating the darkness of the world. We are called to share in the mission of the Risen Lord. His death on the Cross and Resurrection from the Tomb is the answer to the darkness and brokenness of this world. He is our hope and salvation. He is Life and the Light that cannot be overcome.

Wishing everyone at All Saints Grammar, from the Head of School, the teaching and other Staff, and our wonderful students with their families every blessing of the Risen Lord, Whose Light we accept in full humility and gratitude.

Prayerfully yours and with paschal greetings.
