Our Infant students have been working hard ahead of their upcoming prequel performance leading into the School’s production of The Wizard of Oz in August.
PreKinder to Year 2 have been waiting with bated breath to introduce you to the history of Oz; inviting you to meet the beloved Munchkins and sharing how the Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion came to be without their most prized possessions- a heart, a brain and a healthy dose of courage!
We invite our ASG community to join us for this special event in our School Gymnasium on Friday 30 July at 11.30am.

What is your role in The Wizard of Oz?
I will be playing Dorothy and dancing in the jitterbug number.
What part of the show (or the lead up to the show) are you looking forward to the most?
I’m looking forward to performing the show on the stage and seeing the show come to life.
What is your favourite scene from The Wizard of Oz and why?
My favourite scene from the Wizard of Oz is the munchkin scene. When I watch it, the scene teleports me to this mystical and magical land where I feel like I’m in the movie.
If you could spend an hour with anyone from the original cast, who would you choose and why?
If I could spend an hour with any of the original cast, I would spend it with Judy Garland and ask for advice on how I can best turn into Dorothy and how to play the role better.
If you had to be a character from The Wizard of Oz, who would you choose and why?
If I could play another character in the Wizard of Oz, I would probably choose the Wicked Witch because I really like the emotion and sass that is portrayed through the character.
Who is your acting hero and why?
One of my acting heroes is Danny Devito, because he directs and acts in the same movies and I think that’s really cool. I love the idea of being a director and being in charge, but I also love acting and I wouldn’t want to give it up. It’s nice to know that you can do both and be successful (as Danny Devito has proven).

If I were to be one character in the WOZ, I would choose the Wicked Witch because it would be fun to play the character.

Please describe the process of creating this work. What steps did you take?
Researching the design and theme we wanted. Taking measurements and designing the door. Choosing a colour scheme. Working out the pop-out aspect.
What aspects have you enjoyed?
Making the product itself was enjoyable – the partnership work, the cutting process and finalising the design.
What has challenged you and what did you learn from this?
It was a very tall design, so we found it difficult working from the top as we couldn’t reach, but we learned to work with what we have, no matter the size of the product.
How do you think it will feel to see your hard work incorporated into the show?
I think it would be an achievement that something we made from a School project is being displayed on a live show in front of so many people.

What aspects have you enjoyed?

Getting the shape of the objects and drawing to the right proportions was difficult. Ms Hanna put some videos together for me and I learnt different techniques that helped me to draw.
