STAFF MEMBER IN FOCUS: MR POZOGLOU
I am slowly approaching my eighth year of teaching at All Saints Grammar, currently teaching Modern Greek, History and Orthodox Studies. As far as my tertiary studies are concerned, I have attained a Bachelor of Ancient History, Diploma in Modern Greek, Postgraduate Certificate in TESOL, Postgraduate Certificate in Theology and a Master of Teaching.
Initially, I began at ASG as a Modern Greek and Orthodox Studies teacher, working between both the Primary and Secondary Campuses respectively. In my second year, I began teaching solely at the Secondary Campus where I have been teaching Modern Greek, History and Orthodox Studies ever since. In addition to this, in 2020, I was appointed to the role of Wellbeing Facilitator where, together with the Secondary Leader of Wellbeing, I have been responsible for closely monitoring the wellbeing of students and the development of our Pastoral Programs ‘Strengthening Our Connections’ and ‘Rethinking Challenges’. This role has allowed me to help students in their critical transition to secondary school, while also further allowing me to build rapport with students beyond the classroom.
Over time, I have been privileged to see students who I taught in Years 1, 2 and 5 develop and continue their schooling journey at the Secondary campus. In fact, my 2016 Year 5 Modern Greek class will be sitting their HSC in 2023! Seeing students develop from their primary years into young adults has been a particularly rewarding aspect of my time here at ASG. Further to this, also seeing students from other Primary and Secondary Schools transition so seamlessly into the friendly and welcoming school community is yet another factor that has clearly stood out to me.
All Saints Grammar has given me the rare opportunity to play a critical role in preserving the Hellenic presence in Australia for the next generation, helping students maintain an ongoing connection with their Hellenic roots. I have come to see ASG as a beacon for the preservation of not only the Greek language, traditions, history, and culture that migrant families brought with them, but also the values, virtues and teachings embedded within the Orthodox Faith. In essence, this is an ongoing, daily achievement for me and is the most rewarding aspect of being a teacher at ASG.
