Pastoral Procedures

Junior School

Procedures that are followed when disciplinary action needs to take place:

Behavioural Misdemeanours

  Step 1 Initial warning for a minor misdemeanour followed by a 2nd warning.

  Step 2 A comment is written in the Student Diary and the student is placed in the Time Out area for a repeated classroom misdemeanour.
   or
Footsteps for a repeated playground misdemeanour.

  Step 3 Support Desk if Time Out rules are not adhered to due to continued inappropriate behaviour.

  Step 4 If the student's behaviour does not improve he or she is sent to the Co-ordinator and will be placed on Detention and will then notify the parents with a letter and a comment is written in the Student Diary. If the student continues to offend then the House Patron will inform the parents and may request an interview.

  Step 5 A Conduct Card is issued to the student by the Co-ordinator in consultation with the House Patron if steps taken at the Support Desk and the Detention have failed to modify the student's behaviour. The student's teachers during the course of the week will comment on the student's behaviour on the Conduct Card and will countersign each entry. The parents are expected to monitor and sign the Conduct Card daily. This is then shown to the House Patron and the Co-ordinator the following morning at the Junior School.

  Step 6 If the student's behaviour has still not been modified then the Junior School Administrator will request an interview with the parents.

  Step 7 An interview with the Principal will take place to discuss the student's unacceptable ongoing behaviour.

Academic Misdemeanours: Homework

  Step 1 If a student fails to comply to homework commitments a comment is written in the
Student Diary followed by a detention, initially at lunch.

  Step 2 If it occurs regularly then it will become an afternoon detention.

  Step 3 If the student shows no willingness to comply then a Conduct Card is issued and is
monitored by both the Co-ordinator and the House Patron.

  Step 4 If the student stills shows no willingness to comply then the Junior School Administrator
will request an interview with the parents.

  Step 5 If the student stills shows no willingness to comply then the Principal will
request an interview with the parents.

Senior School

Procedures that are followed when disciplinary action needs to take place:

Behavioural Misdemeanours

  Step 1 Teacher requests diary from student as a formal warning.

  Step 2 Should misbehaviour continue, a comment will be written in diary which is returned to student before leaving for the next lesson.

  Step 3 A total of three (3) entries written in diary within a 1 week period from any teachers results in an afternoon detention.

  Step 4 A second detention results in parents being brought in and a conduct card being issued and explained to parents. The conduct card will be for a period of one to two weeks. While the student is on the conduct card, it is the responsibility of the student to have it signed during each lesson and signed each night by parents.

  Step 5

Any further misbehaviour, while on a conduct card or after coming off a conduct card, will result in:

  1. Letter to parents describing student's behaviour and requesting a second interview;
  2. Interview with parents and Senior Student Administrator;
  3. Principal's Detention issue

  Step 6

If there is still further misbehaviour:

  1. A third parents interview (with Principal) will be requested;
  2. His/her position at the school will be reviewed;
  3. The student is suspended

Notes:
  1. Damage to property of the school, staff or other students will result in the student's position at the school being reviewed and payment for repairs being made.
  2. The above Disciplinary Procedure is to take place over a one term period.
  3. Students are to be given an instant detention for breaking the following school rules: offensive language; fighting; chewing gum; spitting; stealing; deliberate damage to other students' property or school property; failure to hand over School Diary on request from teacher.

Depending on the severity of the above offences, students may be issued with: a detention; a Principal's Detention; a suspension; or an expulsion; and payment for the cost and repair of damaged property will be requested.

Academic Misdemeanours: Homework

  Step 1 If a student fails to comply to homework commitments a comment is written in the Student Diary followed by a detention.

  Step 2 If the student shows no willingness to comply then a Conduct Card is issued and is monitored by both the Faculty Co-ordinator and Year Co-ordinator.

  Step 3 If the student still indicates no willingness to comply then the Senior Staff and/or Student Administrator will request an interview with the parents.

  Step 4 If the student still indicates no willingness to comply then the Principal will request an interview with the parents.
